MoveWitness is a rental move-in / move-out inspection app published by Baker Ventures LLC. This policy describes, plainly, what the app does and does not do with your data.
MoveWitness does not have accounts, does not have a server, and the app itself sends nothing anywhere. Every property, inspection, room, note, and photo you create stays in local storage on your own device — and, if you leave iCloud Backup on, in your own backup of that device, which is deliberate and is explained in Section 3. Nothing is uploaded anywhere unless and until you personally choose to share an exported PDF report using your device’s own share sheet (for example, by emailing it to a landlord or tenant) — and at that point, sharing it is your action, using your device’s normal share mechanism, not something MoveWitness does on its own.
Everything you enter — properties, inspections, rooms, condition notes, and photos — is written to an on-device database and the app’s own local file storage, and is used for one purpose: producing your inspection record and the PDF report you can generate from it. None of it is collected by Baker Ventures LLC, because the app transmits none of it.
Neither permission is used for anything besides attaching a photo to a room you are actively inspecting. MoveWitness cannot and does not browse your photo library or camera roll outside of that action.
The app uploads nothing, but there is one route by which your records leave the phone, and it is not us: your own device backup. iOS backs up an app’s local files to iCloud by default, and MoveWitness’s inspection database and photos are included. If iCloud Backup is on, your properties, inspections, notes and photos are in your iCloud backup.
That backup belongs to your Apple account, not to us — we hold no copy of your data and cannot read yours.
We left them there deliberately. Move-out can be a year after move-in, and a lost phone would otherwise destroy the evidence you came here to keep. If you would rather it not be there, you can turn MoveWitness off under Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Backups, and keep your own exports instead.
Apple’s definition of “collect” is data transmitted off the device to the developer or to a third party acting on the developer’s behalf. An iCloud Backup is your own backup, made by the operating system, into your own Apple account, so this does not change what we collect — which is nothing. It does change what we are willing to tell you: the app transmits nothing, and we are not going to say nothing leaves the device when your backup holds a copy.
No one. Because the app transmits nothing, no third party receives your properties, inspections, notes, or photos, and there is no third party whose protection of your data we would need to confirm. The only way anything you create in MoveWitness reaches another person is a PDF report that you yourself export and send. If a future version ever introduces a recipient of your data, this policy will name it and state that it is contractually bound to protect your data to at least the standard set out here, and will be updated before that version ships.
MoveWitness is a general-purpose utility for landlords and tenants and is not directed at children. It collects no data of any kind, from anyone.
If MoveWitness ever adds a feature that changes any of the above — for example, an optional account for syncing across devices — this page will be updated first, and the change will be described plainly, in the same terms as above.
