Hatch Window Support

Hatch Window pulls the conditions that matter — solunar feeding windows, water and weather, and seasonal hatches — into one screen, and keeps a log of what worked.
Please note. Conditions and feeding windows are estimates built from public data plus solunar math and a curated hatch list. They are a starting point, not a promise — rivers and fish don't read the forecast. Always check current local flow and weather yourself, follow your state's fishing regulations and access rules, and put safety first on the water. Hatch Window doesn't track your license or local rules; confirm them with your state agency before you fish.
Frequently asked questions
- Where do the water conditions come from?
- The USGS Water Services API — real, public streamflow and gauge-height data. It's attributed in the app. We never show a made-up number.
- Why does a spot say “no current data”?
- That gauge isn't reporting right now, or the network's down. Rather than guess, Hatch Window tells you the reading is unavailable.
- There's no data for my river or spot.
- That usually means there's no nearby public streamflow gauge for that water — Hatch Window leans on gauges that exist, so ungauged creeks come up thin. The solunar feeding windows still work anywhere, since they're calculated from date and location. Send us the spot and we'll see whether there's a usable nearby gauge we can wire in.
- How are the “best times” calculated?
- On your device, from sunrise/sunset, twilight, and solunar major/minor feeding periods for the spot's location — standard astronomy math, no server.
- Are the fly recommendations reliable?
- They come from a curated hatch database of real, commonly-tied patterns by region, water type, and month. Coverage is honest about what's included — check the coverage notes. Treat them as a starting point, not a promise.
- Do I need a fishing license?
- Almost certainly, and regulations vary by water. Hatch Window doesn't track your license or local rules — confirm them with your state agency before you fish, and put safety first on the water.
- Can I add my own spots?
- Yes. Add any spot; if you know its USGS gauge number, Hatch Window will pull live conditions for it.
- Does the app work without signal on the river?
- Your saved spots, catch log, times, and flies work offline. Live conditions need a connection to fetch fresh USGS data, so grab a look before you lose signal and you'll have the latest reading with you.
- Where is my catch log stored?
- On your device. Hatch Window has no account and no studio server, so your spots, catches, and notes never come to us and aren't uploaded anywhere. They're in your phone's iCloud backup if that's enabled, and deleting the app deletes them — so export anything you'd hate to lose. Your honey holes stay yours.
- Do I need to pay for anything?
- No. Hatch Window is free and every feature ships unlocked — there's no subscription, no in-app purchase, no paywall, and no ads. Nothing in this version of the app can charge you.
- Can I share what worked?
- Yes — generate a text summary of an outing (spot, date, conditions, flies that worked) to share.
- Something's broken, or a reading looks wrong. How do I report it?
- Email us with: (1) device and OS version, (2) what you were doing (viewing conditions, logging a catch…), (3) the location if it's data-related, (4) expected vs. actual, and (5) a screenshot. If a specific reading looked off, tell us the location and we'll check our data source.
