Is this offer worth the miles?

One offer in, four numbers out: what it pays per mile, what it keeps after your own car cost, what that works out to per hour, and the smallest offer that would have been worth taking for those miles.

Why a flat cents-per-mile cutoff misleads

A fixed rule like a dollar or two a mile is easy to remember and ignores the two things that decide whether an offer was worth it: what your particular car costs to run, and how long the offer ties you up. A nine-mile offer in a hybrid and the same offer in a crew-cab pickup are not the same offer, and a $9 run that takes eleven minutes is not the same as a $9 run with a twenty-minute wait at the counter.

This page does the same arithmetic for your car and your clock. Your cost per mile comes out of the vehicle class and annual mileage you pick, so the break-even offer it quotes is yours rather than a number from the internet.

The miles you drive back count

An offer that drops you eleven miles out of your zone costs you the drive back, and nobody pays for that mile. Depreciation, fuel and maintenance do not know whether a mile was paid. Leaving deadhead out of the arithmetic is the most common way a batch of offers looks better on paper than it felt at the end of the night.

That is why the per-mile headline here is per paid mile while the cost side counts every mile, paid and unpaid. If you genuinely stay out and take the next offer from where you are, set the deadhead to zero.

What this leaves out, on purpose

Where the cost figures come from

The per-mile cost for each vehicle class is built from AAA's annual Your Driving Costs study, 2025 edition, using its five-year averages at a 15,000 miles a year baseline. Depreciation is then rescaled to the annual mileage you enter, because the same dollar loss spread over more miles is less per mile. Fuel is recomputed from the price you type. License, registration and finance charges are excluded here, because they are owed whether or not you take this particular offer.

Questions

Does this tell me whether to accept?

No. It tells you what the offer is worth on your car and your clock. Whether that is worth your evening, and what declining does to your standing on a platform, are yours to weigh. It makes no prediction and guarantees nothing.

Is anything sent to a server?

No. It is JavaScript on your device. No request, no logging, no storage. It works with the connection off.

Why is the break-even offer higher than I expected?

Usually deadhead. Break-even is calculated across every mile the offer makes you drive, not just the paid ones, so a short paid run with a long drive back needs more money to clear the car than the paid distance suggests.

Should I use my gas cost or the full per-mile cost?

Gas alone is the number that makes a bad offer look fine. The full figure includes depreciation and maintenance, which you pay later rather than at the pump, and for most vehicle classes depreciation is the largest single component. The calculator shows both so you can see the gap.

Is this tax advice?

No. It is arithmetic on the numbers you type in. It does not tell you what you may deduct or what you owe, and nothing here is a substitute for a tax professional.

The app this came from

A calculator answers one offer. The question it cannot answer is which platform, which hours and which zones were actually worth driving, because that needs a record of what you already did. MileTruth keeps that record: trips with their own dates, business and personal separated, earnings per platform, and the vehicle cost taken out.

MileTruth is not released yet. There is no store listing yet and nothing to buy. The calculators here are free regardless.
