DenialDesk helps you make sense of a health-insurance claim denial and put together an appeal letter in your own words — with the deadlines and documents you need to send it.
Please note. DenialDesk is a self-help drafting and organizing tool — not a lawyer, doctor, insurer, or insurance agent — and nothing on this page or in the app is legal, medical, or insurance advice. No app can promise a claim will be approved. The controlling facts are on your own denial letter and in your plan documents; they can set different or shorter deadlines than any general figure the app shows. Confirm your deadline and appeal steps with your plan or a patient advocate before you rely on the app. For complex or high-dollar denials, consider professional help.
Frequently asked questions
- Is DenialDesk legal, medical, or insurance advice?
- No. It gives you document templates and tracks deadlines. Your plan documents, your insurer's rules, and applicable law govern — verify everything against them.
- Will this letter get my claim approved?
- No app can promise that, and we'd be wary of anything that does. The decision is your insurer's or reviewer's, and nothing the app drafts changes that.
- How do you know my deadline?
- We compute it from the date on your denial notice using general rules (for example, internal appeals are often 180 days). Windows vary by plan and state, so we flag where you must confirm yours.
- Which deadline actually applies to me?
- The one printed on your own denial letter. Plans are required to state your appeal deadline and how to file, and that governs over any general figure. Go by your letter, and if it's unclear, call the number on your insurance card or a patient advocate.
- Does the app submit the appeal for me?
- No — DenialDesk prepares the draft and tracks your deadline, but you send the appeal yourself to your insurer, exactly how your denial letter says to (mail, fax, or their portal). We kept it that way on purpose: you stay in control of what goes out and when.
- Where does the denial-reason information come from?
- A curated knowledge base drawn from general and official sources (such as CMS/HHS and state insurance departments). We don't invent reasons or cite fake rules.
- Why are there blanks in my letter?
- Anything specific to your claim that you haven't entered — a claim number, a date, a plan name — is left as a clear [FILL IN] blank. We never guess those.
- Is my health information sent anywhere?
- No. DenialDesk is on-device only — no account, no studio server. Your claim details and health information stay on your phone; we never receive them and nothing is uploaded to us. They're part of your phone's iCloud or Google backup if that's on, and deleting the app deletes them. Reminders say “appeal due” — never your diagnosis or claim details.
- What's a “surprise bill,” and does the No Surprises Act apply?
- It's an unexpected out-of-network charge in situations the No Surprises Act may cover. DenialDesk explains the situation; whether the Act applies to you depends on your facts — verify them.
- What's the difference between an internal and an external appeal?
- Internal is your insurer reviewing its own decision; external is an independent reviewer. DenialDesk includes templates for both levels — free.
- Can I track more than one claim?
- Yes — track as many claims as you want, each with its own deadline and reminders. The app is free.
- My deadline already passed. Is it hopeless?
- Not always — some plans and states allow late appeals for good cause. Check your plan documents; the app can still help you draft the letter.
- Something's broken, or a deadline looks wrong. How do I report it?
- Email us with: (1) device and OS version, (2) what you were doing (building a letter, setting a deadline…), (3) expected vs. actual, and (4) a screenshot with personal details blurred. If a figure looked off, tell us which one and we'll re-check our source.
