A word on your Lock Screen.

Vocabdrift puts a word and a short definition where you already look, rotating on a schedule you set — no app to open, no feed to scroll.

What it does

Lives on your Lock Screen.Turn the widget on once. From then on a word and its definition rotate in by themselves, on a schedule the widget already has queued up — nothing to fetch, nothing to open.
Missed words come back. The in-app quiz is multiple choice, drawn only from words the widget has actually shown you, and ones you get wrong come back more often until you get them right.
1,383 words, properly sourced.Pulled from WordNet 3.0 and Wiktionary, with the licences and attribution shown in the app. 1,165 words have pronunciation, 535 have an example sentence.
Keep the ones you want.Star any word on the Home screen and, once you have four, quiz yourself on just those.
Private by design.Everything runs on the device. No account, no network requests, nothing about which words you see leaves your phone.

How it works

  1. Turn on the Lock Screen widget once — onboarding walks you through it.
  2. A word and definition rotate in on their own, every 4, 8, 12 or 24 hours, whichever you choose.
  3. Quiz yourself in the app to turn glancing into actually knowing them — missed words come back more.

Questions

How is Vocabdrift different from a vocabulary app I have to open?
It lives on your Lock Screen, so you see a word without opening anything. Turn the widget on once and it keeps rotating on its own.
Do I have to do anything to see new words?
No. Once the widget is on, words rotate on the schedule you pick, in the background. The quiz is there when you want it, not required.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Your words are stored on your device and rotate offline — there's no account and no server call to see them.
What's the word list?
One curated set of 1,383 words, sourced from WordNet 3.0 and Wiktionary and attributed in the app. Every word has a definition; 1,165 have pronunciation and 535 have an example sentence.
Does it track my data?
Your progress is stored on your device only. There's no account, no server, and nothing about which words you see leaves your phone. See the privacy policy.
What does it cost?
Vocabdrift is free. No subscription, no in-app purchase, no ads.
Please note. Definitions come from a curated set, and mistakes do slip through. If a word or definition looks wrong, tell us the exact word and what looks off — we'll verify it and fix it in an update.
