Ten words, four definitions each, scored as you go. Drawn from 1,383 real dictionary entries. No signup, no email, no score saved anywhere.
The word is picked at random from the whole set. The three wrong answers are real definitions of other words with the same part of speech, so you cannot pick the right one by spotting the only noun in a list of verbs. Everything happens in this page: no score, no answer and no identifier leaves your browser.
Where these definitions come from. Most of Vocabdrift’s definitions come from WordNet 3.0, created by Princeton University and used under Princeton’s license, which requires this notice, including the disclaimer below, on every copy: this software and database is provided by Princeton University; permission to use, copy, modify and distribute it is granted royalty-free provided this copyright notice and the following statements appear on all copies. A smaller set of entries, mostly recent words WordNet’s dataset predates, like “gaslight,” “doomscroll,” “deepfake,” and “cosplay”, are adapted from Wiktionary, the free dictionary (en.wiktionary.org), used under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). Definitions adapted from Wiktionary contributors.

Two consequences are yours to respect, not just ours. The WordNet notice must travel with the content: if you copy definitions out of the app, Princeton’s copyright notice, its statements and its disclaimer must appear with them. And the Wiktionary-derived entries are share-alike: if you redistribute or adapt them, your version must itself be under CC BY-SA 4.0, with credit to Wiktionary and its contributors, and Wiktionary’s own Terms of Use may add further conditions.
