3 deadlines NoticeGuard models for Nebraska: what each one counts from, the statute it was read from, and the statute text.
Information, not legal advice. This app reports what the statute says and cites the section it read. It is not legal advice, it does not file anything for you, and it does not tell you what to do.
Verify with the statute or an attorney. Statutes change, and courts reinterpret them. Every deadline in this app comes from a statute read on the date shown next to its citation - that snapshot can go out of date. Missing a mechanics lien deadline can extinguish your claim permanently, so confirm any deadline you are relying on with an attorney licensed in that state before you act on it.
Data verified: statute text retrieved 2026-09-21 (each citation below carries its own date). Rule data from the NoticeGuard app, source commit 22f9300.
Recorded with the register of deeds, counted from this claimant's own final furnishing of services or materials.
What it counts from. 120 days after last furnishing (last day on site).
Applies to. Original contractor, Subcontractor, Supplier, Preconstruction service.
Nebraska Revised Statute § 52-137 (1) Official source · statute text retrieved 2026-09-21
“A claimant's lien does not attach and may not be enforced unless, after entering into the contract under which the lien arises and not later than one hundred twenty days after his or her final furnishing of services or materials, he or she has recorded a lien.”
If the date is missed (the statute's own terms). The statute's own mechanism: the lien "does not attach and may not be enforced unless" recorded within this period.
Also stated next to this deadline.
Applies uniformly to a prime contractor and every other claimant alike - unlike several other states in this app, Nebraska does not shorten this deadline by contract tier.
Send copy of recorded lien to owner
A copy of the recorded lien, sent to the contracting owner, counted from the date the lien was recorded.
What it counts from. 10 days after notice of construction lien recorded.
Applies to. Original contractor, Subcontractor, Supplier, Preconstruction service.
Nebraska Revised Statute § 52-135 (3) Official source · statute text retrieved 2026-09-21
“The claimant shall send a copy of a recorded lien to the contracting owner within ten days after recording, and the recording shall be within the time specified for the filing of liens under section 52-137.”
If the date is missed (the statute's own terms). The statute states this as a duty ("shall send") alongside the recording deadline itself, rather than a separately stated forfeiture clause.
Institute judicial proceedings to enforce the lien
Counted from the date the lien was recorded - the lien continues enforceable for this long by default, absent a written demand from an interested party to sue sooner.
What it counts from. 730 days after notice of construction lien recorded.
Applies to. Original contractor, Subcontractor, Supplier, Preconstruction service.
Nebraska Revised Statute § 52-140 (1) Official source · statute text retrieved 2026-09-21
“a lien that has become enforceable as provided in sections 52-125 to 52-159 continues enforceable for two years after recording of the lien.”
If the date is missed (the statute's own terms). By its own terms, the lien simply stops being enforceable once this period runs without a judicial proceeding instituted.

Approximated as 730 calendar days (2 years × 365), the same approximation style used throughout this app. Two calendar years is 730 or 731 days, so this date always lands on or before the statutory one - never after it.
An interested party can shorten this by written demand: the claimant must then sue (or record an affidavit that the contract price is not yet due) within 30 days of receiving the demand, or the lien lapses (§ 52-140(2)) - a data-dependent alternate this app does not separately model (see this state's "Honest limits").
If a proceeding is instituted while the lien is still effective, the lien continues for the duration of that proceeding (§ 52-140(3)).
Weekend and holiday rollover
NoticeGuard does not model a weekend or holiday extension for Nebraska. The dates above are the plain count from the date you enter. Check whether a Saturday, Sunday or holiday changes your date.
What this rule set does not cover
The "notice of the right to assert a lien" (§ 52-135(1)) is NOT modeled - confirmed to have no day-count deadline at all ("may [be given] at any time after" contract entry), not merely unresearched. It affects only how much of a claimant's lien survives against a "protected party contracting owner" who has properly paid the prime contractor (§ 52-136), not whether the lien exists.
The lien-attachment/priority mechanics in § 52-137(2)-(5) (relation-back rules keyed to a recorded "notice of commencement" and "visible commencement" of the improvement) are not modeled - real, but priority-among-creditors mechanics, not a deadline this app tracks.
The 30-day demand-to-institute-proceedings shortcut (§ 52-140(2): an interested party may demand in writing that the claimant sue within 30 days, or the lien lapses) is not modeled - a data-dependent alternate this app does not otherwise collect a receipt date for. This app always shows the default 2-year deadline below.
Weekend/holiday rollover is NOT modeled - no general Nebraska computation-of-time statute was researched this pass, and none of the sections read here state one.
No document is generated for Nebraska in this pass - confirmed absent, not merely unresearched. Unlike every other state in this app, the Nebraska Construction Lien Act does not appear to specify required content for the recorded lien document itself anywhere in §§ 52-125 through 52-145 (only the separate "notice of the right to assert a lien," § 52-135(1)(a)-(h), has a stated content list - a different, non-deadline document this app does not conflate with the recorded lien).
Only §§ 52-131, 52-133, 52-135, 52-136, 52-137, and 52-140 have been read. The rest of the Nebraska Construction Lien Act - including lien priority as against non-lien claimants (§ 52-139) and the notice-of-commencement/termination mechanism (§§ 52-145, 52-146) referenced by § 52-137(2) - has not been incorporated.
NoticeGuard is an app that turns a job's dates into a countdown for each statutory step, shows the statute text each date was read from, exports a calendar file (.ics) and sends reminders 14, 7 and 1 day before each deadline. It tracks and reminds; it does not file anything for you.
